Patchday Briefings

A briefing is a scheduled, AI-generated upgrade guide for every repository you track. Instead of a notification for each individual release, Patchday compares the version you're running against the latest one and tells you what it would take to upgrade: what breaks, what to do about it, and how risky the jump is.

How briefings work

When a briefing runs, Patchday looks at each tracked repository where you've marked the release you're currently running (see Marking your running version). For every repository that has newer releases, it generates an upgrade guide covering four things:

• Breaking changes between your version and the latest
• Migration steps to get from one to the other
• A risk assessment explaining what to watch out for
• A risk level — low, medium, high, or critical

All of the guides from a single run are collected on the Briefings page and sent to you in one digest email, so a busy update week lands as a single message rather than a flood of alerts.

Scheduling a briefing

Briefings are configured alongside your other notification settings.

1. Go to Notifications in the sidebar.
2. Turn on the Patchday Briefing toggle.
3. Choose a frequency:
   • Weekly, then pick the day of the week it should run.
   • Monthly, then pick whether it runs on the 1st or the 15th.

Your choice saves automatically. Turn the toggle off any time to pause briefings without losing your other settings.

The Briefings page

Open Briefings from the sidebar to read every upgrade guide Patchday has generated for you. Each guide is a collapsible card showing the repository, the version range it covers, and a color-coded risk badge. Expand a card to read the full breaking-changes, migration, and risk breakdown.

If no briefing has run yet, the page shows an empty state. Your first guides appear after the next scheduled run.

Risk levels

Every guide carries one of four risk levels, shown as a colored badge:

• Low (green) — routine update, little to watch for.
• Medium (amber) — some changes worth reading before you upgrade.
• High (red) — meaningful breaking changes; plan the upgrade.
• Critical (bold red) — significant breakage; read the guide carefully first.

The latest risk level for each repository also appears on its dashboard card, so you can spot a risky update at a glance.

Rating a guide

Each guide card has thumbs-up and thumbs-down buttons. Use them to tell us whether a guide was helpful. Your rating is yours alone, so guides shared across users keep independent feedback. Tap the same button again to clear it.

The digest email

Once every guide in a run has finished generating, Patchday sends one email with the full briefing: every repository, every upgrade guide, risk levels and all. It's the same content you'd see on the Briefings page, dropped straight into your inbox so you can read it without logging in.
