Notifications

Patchday notifies you the moment a tracked repository publishes a new release. Push notifications are delivered through ntfy, a simple, open-source notification service.

Setting up ntfy

ntfy (pronounced "notify") sends push notifications to your phone and desktop without requiring an account. You subscribe to a "topic" (a channel name you choose) and Patchday sends notifications to it.

Step 1: Enable ntfy in Patchday

1. Go to Notifications in the sidebar.
2. Toggle the ntfy.sh switch to on.
3. In the Ntfy Topic field, enter a topic name of your choice (e.g., my-patchday-alerts).

The topic name can contain letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores. Pick something unique to avoid collisions with other ntfy users.

Step 2: Subscribe on your devices

Install the ntfy app and subscribe to the same topic:

• Android: Install ntfy from Google Play or F-Droid, then tap + and enter your topic name.
• iOS: Install ntfy from the App Store, then add your topic.
• Desktop: Open ntfy.sh/app in your browser and subscribe to the topic.

What you'll receive

Each notification includes:

• The repository name (e.g., immich-app/immich)
• The release tag (e.g., v1.120.0)
• A clickable link to the release on GitHub

Notifications arrive within minutes of a release being published.

Custom server URL

If you run your own ntfy server (common in homelab setups), you can point Patchday at it instead of the public ntfy.sh instance.

1. Go to Notifications in the sidebar.
2. In the Server URL field, enter your server's address (e.g., https://ntfy.example.com).
3. Leave the field empty to use the default ntfy.sh server.

Patchday sends all your notifications to your custom server. Make sure your ntfy instance is reachable from the internet, since Patchday's servers need to POST to it.

Both the server URL and topic name save automatically as you type.

Pre-release filtering

By default, Patchday only sends ntfy notifications for stable releases. Pre-releases (alphas, betas, release candidates) are skipped.

To include pre-releases in your notifications:

1. Go to Notifications in the sidebar.
2. Toggle Include pre-releases to on.

This setting is independent of the "Show pre-releases" toggle on the dashboard and feed. You might want to see pre-releases in the UI but only get notified about stable releases, or the other way around.

Patchday Briefings

Beyond per-release push notifications, Patchday can send you a scheduled briefing: an AI-generated upgrade guide for every repository you track, comparing the version you're running against the latest. Enable it from the same Notifications page and pick a weekly or monthly schedule.
