Dashboard & Feed

Patchday gives you two ways to browse releases: the Dashboard for a quick overview and the Feed for a complete chronological list.

Dashboard

The dashboard is your home screen. It shows the latest release from each tracked repository as a grid of cards.

Release cards

Each card shows:

  • Repository name in owner/name format
  • Release tag (the version number, e.g., 2.5.0)
  • Relative date with exact date and time on hover
  • AI summary as bullet points highlighting what changed
  • Pre-release badge in amber when applicable
  • How far behind you are — once you've marked the release you're running, the card shows either an amber "N behind" badge or a green "Up to date" badge
  • Risk level of the latest release (low, medium, high, or critical) when a briefing has assessed it

If a repository was added recently and hasn't been polled yet, the card shows a loading spinner with "Fetching releases..." instead until the first fetch completes.

Click any card to open the full repository detail page with complete release notes.

Pre-release toggle

The Show pre-releases toggle in the top-right corner controls whether pre-release versions appear. When off (the default), only stable releases show. Your preference is saved to your account and persists across sessions.

Empty state

If you haven't tracked any repositories yet, the dashboard shows a prompt to add your first repo.

Release feed

The feed page shows every release across all your tracked repositories, sorted newest first.

Feed entries

Each entry shows:

  • Repository name with a GitHub icon
  • Release tag
  • One-line description, either AI-generated or the first line of the release notes
  • Relative date (hover for exact date and time)
  • Pre-release badge when applicable, with a highlighted border

Click any entry to open the repository detail page.

Pagination

The feed is paginated. Page controls appear at the bottom. A green badge in the top-right shows the total number of releases across your tracked repos.

Pre-release toggle

The feed shares the same Show pre-releases toggle as the dashboard. Changing it in one place updates both views.

Repository detail page

Click a repository name anywhere in the app to open its detail page.

Latest release

The top section shows the most recent release in full:

  • Tag name, date, and pre-release badge
  • Star count for the repository
  • Complete release notes rendered as Markdown, the full changelog as published by the maintainers

Previous releases

An accordion list below shows all older releases. Click any row to expand and read its full release notes inline. Pre-release entries have an amber accent border.

The list shows 20 releases per page and respects your pre-release preference.

What's running

Hover any release row and click Use to mark it as the version you're currently running. The marked release gets a green In use pin, and your dashboard card for that repository starts showing how far behind you are.

Marking your running version is also what powers Patchday Briefings — the upgrade guides compare the release you're on against the latest. Click In use again to clear the mark.

Stop tracking

At the bottom, a Danger Zone section lets you stop tracking the repository. This removes it from your watchlist and stops notifications. You can re-add it at any time.

AI summaries

When Patchday detects a new release, it reads the full release notes and generates two AI summaries:

  • Bullet-point summary shown on dashboard cards, so you can scan the breaking changes, new features, and important fixes in a couple of seconds.
  • One-line summary shown in the feed: a single sentence on the change that matters most.

Summaries are generated once per release and shared across all users. The AI prioritizes breaking changes and user-facing features over internal refactors and dependency bumps.
